Module One: What Makes Us Want to Learn and Achieve?
In this five-week module, students explore intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and the ways our needs for safety, belonging, esteem and personal growth can influence behaviour.
We then examine how positive reinforcement can be used to motivate behaviour, particularly in education, before turning our focus to rewards, praise, shaping and token economies.
We also consider both the possibilities and limitations of using external rewards to encourage learning.
Suitable for students aged 14+.
